Minister Held Discussion with UNFPA’s Delegates

(A.A, March 16, 2023) H.E. Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye (PHD), Minister of Women and Social Affairs held talk with UNFPA delegates led by, Ms. Lydia Zigomo, Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Director, at her office, H.E welcomed the delegates on behalf of Ethiopian government and herself. She appreciated the concern of UNFPA to work with the ministry so as to alleviate the natural and human made challenge that the country faced. Concerning the duty and responsibility of the ministry, H.E explains that the Ministry comprises the social affair of women, children, youth, elders, persons with disabilities and family issues.

H.E also reminded the long standing relationship with UNFPA in support towards Gender equality and women empowerment programs including Ending Gender based violence, and Harmful practices (Child marriage and FGM), youth initiatives and humanitarian supports.

The discussion is focused on the strengthen the support of women and youth empowerment, gender equality Her Excellency and State ministers raised different social areas that need special attentions and support such as Strengthening Humanitarian support, Prevention, Protection and coordination mechanisms to reduce GBV and HPs, joint campaigns, national advocacy.

Ms. Lydia Zigomo, in her part appreciated the commitment of the ministry to mitigate the challenges of young girls, women and much more social affairs as a whole and she explain about the committeemen of UNFPA to work with MoWSA for the Development programs on young girls and other holistic social approaches.
